Nancy Bernardo is Assistant Professor of Graphic Design at Loyola University, New Orleans. She has been a practicing graphic designer for 15 years since receiving her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work examines female appearance and social roles as presented in mid-20th century advertising, pop culture and everyday life. These projects take a variety of forms, including subversive posters, waxed print collages, book cover designs, and artist books. Compilations of her work have appeared in galleries in Chicago, New York City, Seattle and New Orleans, and several of her artist-books have been selected as part of the permanent collection at the Joan Flasch Artist Book Collection at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. In October 2012, Design Observer and AIGA selected her book design for Checking In/Checking Out (Mark Yakich/Chris Schaberg) as one of the Best 50 covers of 2011. Her most recent projects are documented at the website decorativedebris.wordpress.com.
