Bachelor of Music

Obtain a bachelor of music to study composition, elective studies, jazz studies, music industry studies or music performance.

Composition

The music composition program is designed to prepare students for graduate work in composition or for freelance work as composers, copyists, or arrangers. The curriculum includes a strong emphasis on analog and digital synthesis and on current computer applications for the preparation of musical scores. Elective Studies

Jazz Studies

The jazz studies program is professionally oriented and designed for brass, woodwind, and rhythm instrumentalists. The resident Faculty Jazz Ensemble features professionals who remain active in jazz and commercial fields. Guest artists of international reputation conduct masterclasses and perform with student ensembles during the annual Loyola University Jazz Ensemble Festival. Students have been able to witness performances by jazz musicians such as Brian Blade, Stefon Harris, and Mark Whitfield. The Loyola Jazz Club has presented masterclasses with jazz greats such as Ellis Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Terence Blanchard, and Michel Camilo. Unique courses for our program include: Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Combo, Jazz Composition and Arranging, and Evolution of Jazz Styles. See degree plan »

Music Performance

For enhancing skills and bringing them to a professional level, there’s no better way than private study. All of our music performance students study with Loyola’s artist faculty who maintain professional careers and have extensive backgrounds.
