The Department of Film and Music Industry Studies at Loyola University New Orleans presented an evening of contemporary music at the New Orleans House of Blues on Friday, December 9. The event entitled Uptown Downtown involved eight ensembles of nearly 80 students from the Department of Film and Music Industry. Rock’n’Roll and Rap from original and cover music from the 60’s to the present were featured to the packed audience. The ensembles are part of the new Popular and Commercial Music Program in the College of Music and Fine Arts that first offered courses in Fall 2015. In its second year, there are 60 students in the Pop and Commercial Music Program who take private lessons, perform in ensembles and learn music theory and history for popular music in an environment of liberal arts. The ensembles were conducted by David Torkanowsky, Lo Faber, Rich Collins, Mark Carson and Sanford Hinderlie.
