Ashley Shabankareh (’12): Director of Education for the Preservation Hall Foundation

Ashley currently works as the Director of Education for the Preservation Hall Foundation, a nonprofit organization, music venue, and touring jazz band. Located on St. Peter Street in the fabled French Quarter, the Preservation Hall venue honors the jazz style as an art form, and offers more than 350 intimate, acoustic jazz concerts each year.

Meanwhile, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band presents this intimate tradition worldwide, with over 100 annual tour dates across the globe - including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, the Hollywood Bowl, the United Nations, and more. In July of 2013, the Jazz Band’s first original album reached #1 on the iTunes jazz charts, and achieved much critical acclaim.

Ashley manages the Foundation’s education efforts, which include private lessons, mentoring, workshops, clinics, masterclasses, field trips, and a junior jazz band. With a focus on troubled areas in New Orleans without existing music programs in schools, these programs focus on creating experiential settings for students to learn through playing and mentorships from professional teaching artists.
