Short Bio
Nick Volz joined the Loyola University faculty in 2008 as Instructor of Classical and Jazz Trumpet. He received his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Loyola University his Master’s degree in Music Performance from Southeastern Louisiana University, and he is currently completing his Doctorate in Brass Pedagogy from Indiana University. He has enjoyed a broad and diverse career as a performer and educator, performing throughout the world in both classical and jazz contexts.
As a New Orleans native and active freelance musician, Mr. Volz has performed with a variety of groups including John Mahoney Big Band, Loyola University Faculty Brass Quintet, and the Al Balletto Big Band. He had the pleasure of touring with local groups such as Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes and Vivaz Latin Band. Other reputable artists he has performed with include the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Columbus Symphony, Chicago Baroque Ensemble, Nicholas Payton, Brice Winston, John Ellis, and John Vidacovich. In addition to his numerous radio, television, and recording credits, Volz has also played with such popular music artists as Barry Manilow, Run DMC, and Sugar Ray.
In recent years, Mr. Volz has served on faculty at Southeastern Louisiana University, Mississippi Community College, and St. Tammany Parish High Schools. Other teaching experiences include Greater New Orleans Youth Orchestra, Lafayette Elementary School, and St. Clement of Rome Junior High.
