Loyola faculty members participated in two panel discussions at the Jazz Education Network Conference on January 4-7, 2017.
Professors John Snyder, Billy O’Connel and Kate Duncan served on the panel of "Band as Business, Musician as Entrepreneur." This discussion focused on how musicians can create sustainable careers by understanding the business options and legal rights that are created when they compose, record and perform their music.
Trumpet Professor Dr. Nick Volz served on the panel of "New Orleans Jazz Trumpet Summit Panel Discussion." The New Orleans style offers an approach to studying melody and rhythm that is attractive to audiences around the globe. In this session, New Orleans' top trumpet players offered their opinions on New Orleans style, both in the traditional and modern sense. Panelists included: Marlon Jordan, Jamil Shariff, Leon Brown, Leroy Jones, Jeremy Davenport, Ashlin Parker, and several others.
